Parrots for Change

Parrots for Change

Meet Oly, Jesse and Echo — three of the parrot ambassadors of Flight Club Foundation.

The Flight Club Foundation was founded by Debbie Goodrich, Kathy Morrison and Jackie Cottrell in 2013.  This dynamic triad brought in experience of professional training and curatorship (Debbie), wildlife conservation, reintroduction and rehab (Kathy) and proper domestic breeding and understanding of free flight training (Jackie).  This amazing combination of understanding helped create the overall philanthropy Flight Club Foundation has become.

Originally, Flight Club existed as a group for bird owners to get together and socialize with each other and their birds. Then, bird groups and events collapsed in the area, creating a void in education and unity to help owners at home.  Flight Club Foundation elected to not only fill the void of the events lost and home support, but to help any and all events, clubs, associations that connected parrots to people around the world.

Their mission and work with the community has granted them federal nonprofit status “to increase awareness of and advocacy for the environment our parrots rely on by uniting communities, improving welfare, supporting conservation, assisting research, creating educational programs, inspiring adults and involving the youngest generations in the changes we need to make.”

Flight Club Foundation aims to “inspire environmental and personal change” through educational events and even animal therapy.  Parrots like Oly, Jesse and Echo are true ambassadors of this personal change, allowing thousands to hold them, talk to them and experience them. They have changed people’s lives and cross any and all boundaries we conceive in our everyday lives.

Seattle Parrot Expo is Flight Club Foundation’s annual, free admission event for everyone to learn more about parrots and our connections to them. Seattle Parrot Expo aims to introduce and educate people to understand the overall importance of parrots to our world and our connections to each other including our homes, the workplace, and the environment. The Expo hosts worldwide experts in parrots, workshops, games, exhibitors, artisans, breeders, rescues, conservation groups, clubs, and more.

This year, Seattle Parrot Expo returns for it’s 5th year running with the theme, “The Rainforest Returns”, literally transforming the Auburn Community and Events Center into a Rainforest. Come through with some change in your pockets to donate by playing games, getting your face painted, shopping at exhibitors for you or your bird, raffles, auction items and more.  After all, it’s about “people helping parrots, parrots helping people”!

The Parrot Expo is on October 13th and 14th. Check out the event here: https://www.seattle-parrot-expo.com

We've also teamed up with Flight Club Foundation to host an in-store fundraiser at the MOO-YOUNG Concept Shop on Saturday, June 2, in conjunction with Bar Ferdinand's 1st annual Rosé and Aioli Fair. There will be over 20 rosé wines to taste in the courtyard and crafts and slushes for kids! Come say hello to Oly, Jesse and Echo from 1–4 PM and have your photo taken with these beautiful birds!

As an exclusive for this event, MOO-YOUNG collaborated with the birds of Flight Club and will be selling feather + leather adornments. 50% of the profit from the pieces will be donated to Flight Club Foundation to keep their mission alive.

Our fundraiser is a free event but donations are encouraged.  You must purchase tickets to be admitted to Bar Ferdinand's Rosé Fair.
